What should I look for when buying a billiard table?
Buying a pool table is not much different than buying a car—or any product you want to last for a long time. The closer you look,
the more you’ll see which features are important to you and what will fit your lifestyle. And although you can’t test drive a pool
table, you can visit a dealer’s showroom to check out the variety of models.
Remember, not all tables are created equal..The following is a list of features you should look for when purchasing your billiard or pool table
True interlocking, laminated, cross-ply support beams – not just pieces of wood joined by hardware (See our interactive construction display).
Little or no use of metal hardware; all wood corner support systems are preferable since this type of construction does not loosen over time; be sure to lean on the table to make sure you don’t feel racking or shifting (Every Legacy table has an all wood corner support system).
Keep in mind that veneer and wood is more durable than laminate. (Legacy does not use laminates on any table).
K-66 cushion rubber is the only cushion rubber sanctioned by the BCA (Billiard Congress of America).
Roll a ball on the table to gauge quietness of play and consistency of speed & rebound action.
Minimum ¾”, 3-pc genuine slate – though if your budget allows, 1”, 3-pc genuine slate is preferable.
What's the warranty? Be very careful here! Many manufacturers warranties are very creatively written using fine print to their advantage. Most warranties are pro-rated, use deductibles or have a standard flat fee before charging you for parts and labor. Always ask for copies of the fine print warranties before signing a deal and study them carefully. Legacy tables are covered by a Lifetime Warranty.
A minimum of 21 oz, wool blend billiard cloth will provide the best playing results. We offer various types of cloths by leading manufactures including
Champion and Simonis.

Miss-matched furniture is the norm. The reason? Most billiard manufactures "Outsource" their game Room collections trying to match the look and wood of
their tables.
Legacy is the only manufacturer out there who can offer you an entire game room built and finished under one roof – ours. We truly
set the standard for unique billiard tables and game room furniture, beautifully crafted and built to last a lifetime. Please see our matching
collections.
Our tables by Legacy, Imperial and Guild all use 1" three piece slate that is diamond honed. Never select a table that has only 1 piece slate or worse, uses
no slate at all.
The short answer is yes. The better foundation you have the better the table will maintain a level playing surface. Level concrete is the best.
Hardwood floors are good so long as they have good structural supports. "Floating" floors are harder to maintain a good level playing surface and
may need re-leveling from time to time.
What about carpet? It's better to have a hard surface floor, but tables are routinely placed on carpet.
You will need some basic accessories to get started. With most tables, you will have the option of selecting a basic or premimum starter kit. This
usual includes balls, cues, racks, chualk, cue rack, game rules ect.
We recommend you get the best accessory kit you can afford, i.e., better balls and cues. You will also want a safe place to keep these items like
a wall cue rack or built-in drawer in your table. There are many styles and wood types to choose from.
It depends. If you buy from an Internet company you will pay a premium for installation in addition to any shipping and handling. Keep in mind that
installation can cost several hundred dollars. What you don't want to do is try and install the table yourself. There is specialized equipment and
techniques required to properly install a billiard table. In most cases, when you purchase a table from Backyard Outfitters, we provide the installation
for you at no additional cost. Some limitations may apply. Please check with one of our sales representatives.
